STRONG FOR LIFE! STRENGTH EXERCISE FOR OLDER ADULTS
MINISTRY LEADER: LYNN NORRIS 706-315-7748
This strength/flexibility improvement program is tailored for middle-aged and older adults but can be great for others wanting to begin strength exercise. It trains and educates people to maintain or improve their strength for an active, independent life. It benefits multiple body systems, improves body composition/metabolism, and confidence. A doctor's approval form is needed and may be picked up on your first day of class. It is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:45-2:30 PM.
TAI CHI
MINISTRY LEADER: LYNN NORRIS 706-315-7748
This exercise program, led by a certified volunteer, can promote relaxation, help improve balance and coordination, physical and mental well-being, and can relieve stress. Many movements can be done while sitting, so all adults are invited. It is offered on Monday from 1:00-1:45 PM. No MD approval is required, but participants must sign a release.
YOGA
MINISTRY LEADER: MARTHA CRANSTON 706-536-0414
“Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…therefore, glorify God in your body.” (1Corinthians 3:16; 19-20)
Each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the St. Cecelia Room, we practice this all-inclusive exercise program of aerobic, strength, stability, flexibility and balance. We follow a yoga routine at the gentle level. A time of prayer begins the class and ends with relaxed meditation as we quiet ourselves and tune out the world and tune into God. If you want to become not only physically healthy but spiritually healthy than come join us. You will need a yoga mat, blocks, blanket and a strap.
ZUMBA! GOLD
MINISTRY LEADER: RITA HELLKAMP 706-221-7202
Zumba Gold is a dance class that will tone and sculpt the body. Its purpose is to make exercise, a necessary evil, fun. It raises the heart rate without you even realizing its exercise. All students are welcome, as long as they wear appropriate exercise shoes, are breathing and walking with minimal assistance. We have several regulars who sit the entire class, and still get a workout. Yes, it’s possible! The class meets Wednesdays from 1-1:45 PM in Visitation Hall; no classes during Holy Week/summer months.
